Kanetix supports workplace diversity and gender equality

Kanetix.ca helps Canadians make better financial decisions. They compare dozens of insurance providers to find Canadians the lowest price for auto, home, and travel insurance. This company’s ability to operate as one of the most reliable insurance provider trackers in Canada is not only a result of their knowledge and expertise in the insurance industry, but of the handpicked individuals who work there.

Kanetix is careful to keep workplace diversity and gender equality at the heart of the organization in order to bring diversified viewpoints and capabilities to the team.

But this effort is not without its challenges. President and CEO Andrew Lo says the majority of digital and tech-related resumes come from male candidates.

“Nine in 10 resumes we get for tech and digital positions are male.”

It's an ongoing effort to maintain a diverse pipeline of talent by participating in events like the Girls' Tech Tour and HoHoTO. And they're seeing success through their diversified recruiting efforts. With over 140 employees, 59 are female—that’s 42%—and 33 of these females are from diverse backgrounds (56%).

Increasing capability through a diverse leadership team

Gender parity by overall staff isn't enough. Kanetix strongly believes in empowering women as leaders in the workplace. They've highlighted this in their Women in Leadership Positions video posted above.“Women bring a different perspective, a different nature, a different way of thinking,” said Janine White, VP of Marketplaces at Kanetix.Out of 41 managers at Kanetix, 17 are female (41.5%), a climbing number on its way to accurately representing the general population. Seven of these 17 women are from diverse backgrounds and Kanetix continues to work towards diversifying its workforce.

As Reygan Hale, VP of People Operations at Kanetix notes, while "historical biases against women—in particular jobs—have faded over the years, we need to continue to break down any barriers or walls that we face.”
